Citywide Scavenger Hunt

Participate in a city wide scavenger hunt the entire month of May and find things you may have never noticed that are tied to Bozeman’s history. Submit your completed form and receive Downtown Bozeman Dollars (while supplies last) that can be spent at participating downtown businesses! 

You can download the form here or you can pick up hard copies at locations around town including the Library, City Hall, Professional Building, Extreme History Building, Story Mill Community Center, or the Gallatin History Museum. We will also have printouts of the forms at Preservation Month events. Forms must be submitted by June 3 to be eligible to receive Downtown Dollars! All details can be found on the form. Cookie Painting Party at the Story Mansion

Join the Historic Preservation Advisory Board and Friends of Story Mansion for a Cookie Painting Party at the Story Mansion! From 12 - 3PM, we will have cookies to decorate to celebrate Bozeman's heritage and Historic Preservation Month. This event is open to all ages and will take place rain or shine.

Join us in listening to author Betsy Gaines Quammen as she discusses her new book True West: Myth and Mending on the Far Side of America. The event will take place at the Story Mansion from 6-8 PM. Light refreshments and conversation to follow.

Along the Gallagator Tour: History of the Railway, South Tracy, and More!

Join us and the Extreme History Project for a stroll along the Gallagator Trail, once a railway line that extended to Gallatin Gateway. Travel along the old railway bed, learning the history of the railway along with the history of Peets Hill and Langohr gardens. We will walk back along South Tracy, seeing iconic residences designed by local architect, Fred Willson. Meet your guide at the sculpture park located at the south end of the Bozeman Public Library parking lot. The tour will last from 6 - 7:30PM.

Symbolism in Sunset Hills Cemetery Tour

Are symbols of an owl, a star, or a weeping willow merely decorative or do they have deeper meanings? Join The Extreme History Project for a tour through Sunset Hills Cemetery to discover the symbols engraved on historic headstones and the clues they give us about the people who founded our community. Meet your guide at the entrance to Sunset Hills Cemetery located at the south end of Lindley Park. The tour will take place from 6 - 7PM.

Historic Preservation Awards

Come celebrate the 2024 Historic Preservation award winners which will be held at the Bozeman Event Space at 14 S. Tracy on Thursday, May 30. Doors open at 6:30 and the program will start around 7:00pm.
