Upcoming Phase 2 Presentation

As promised in our December update, work on Phase 2 continues. We will be engaging the Historic Preservation Advisory Board in discussion about the framework of the Local Landmark Program at their meeting at 6pm on March 31, 2026. The meeting was rescheduled from its regular date to accommodate spring break. This continues our effort to provide project updates for consideration and public comment in preparation for reviewing proposed code amendments later this year.

The meeting presentation will focus on outlining the key components of the Local Landmark Program, including how the nomination process may work, criteria for identifying potential Landmarks, where in the city Landmarks may be located, and the potential significance of designating a Landmark. Essentially, we want to share the project team's thoughts about the Who and How, the What and Where, and Why it all matters. We hope you will tune in next week, or find the meeting recording, and let us know what you think.

Find more information about the March 31 HPAB meeting, including the agenda (coming soon), a link to stream the meeting live, and a recording after the meeting concludes, on the City's website.

Update on the NCOD Design Guidelines Project

We are also starting to move forward with a separate project, which will update Bozeman's Design Guidelines that apply to the Neighborhood Conservation Overlay District (NCOD). Because that project is so closely related to the Local Landmark Project, we have already coordinated a meeting between the consultants on both projects to give them a chance to meet and share their perspectives. We hope the two projects will support each other as they both move forward over the next year.

The NCOD Design Guidelines Update Engage page launched this week and we encourage you to subscribe to that project as well to make sure you receive updates on both efforts that will reshape our Historic Preservation Program for the future!
