Businesses at the intersection of 9th and College with cars parked on the street

The City of Bozeman is planning improvements to College Street between 8th and 11th Avenue. The project will improve pavement conditions while redesigning the street to enhance safety and accessibility for people walking, biking, and driving.

The goal is to create a more cohesive connection that works well for both the college community and the neighborhood across College St. Over the last few years, the City has partnered with MSU on early outreach with students and business owners to look for solutions to pedestrian safety, improved bicycle infrastructure, and access spacing for driveways along the north curb. Check out the College St Corridor Exhibits in the Documents section for preliminary design options.

For this next leg of engagement, we'll be consulting with the community on preferred bicycle facilities, driveway access, and intersection controls.

Be sure to follow this project to be informed of upcoming engagement opportunities.

City staff is happy to share a progress update on street parking.

Conceptual plans for the College St project presented for public engagement included removal of on-street parking along the south curb from 8th to 11th in order to extend the shared use path that currently ends at 11th St. After listening to concerns expressed by the community, Bozeman City Commission has directed staff to revisit the potential of a minor widening of the street to allow for parking to remain while also extending the path.

The city is happy to share that MSU leadership has agreed to consider this improvement using University-owned land south of the College St right-of-way. City staff have directed our consultant engineers to update the concept plans to include parking in the interest of concerns expressed by the community. We plan to return to City Commission in January with the updated plans for final direction on scope of construction.

Stay tuned to the Engage page for updated plans and City Commission schedule once a date is set.

City staff thanks all who engaged in our recent Open House, Transportation Advisory Board, and City Commission meetings.

Based on your interests and needs, Bozeman City Commission has asked staff to revisit the potential to keep on-street parking along the south curb of College St while also extending the shared use path proposed in our conceptual drawings. City and MSU leaders will meet in early November to discuss a path (no pun!) forward.

An update on final scope of design will be provided to the public following meetings with MSU.

    Stay tuned!
