The Historic Preservation Advisory Board is pleased to announce the 2025 Historic Preservation Awards and invites the community to submit nominations!

These awards honor outstanding projects, properties, individuals, organizations, and acts of stewardship that contribute to historic preservation and celebrate Bozeman’s rich history and cultural heritage.

You can submit your nomination by filling out the nomination submission a little further down this page.

Deadline: Sunday, October 5, 2025

Please see the post below for eligibility requirements and categories. All nominations will be reviewed by the Historic Preservation Advisory Board, and winners will be notified in mid-October.

    Since 2002, the Historic Preservation Advisory Board has honored individuals, organizations, projects, and programs that demonstrate a commitment to historic preservation and our cultural heritage through annual Preservation Awards.

    Eligible nominees are many and varied. Some examples include:

    • Committed historic preservation advocates and educators
    • Homeowners who have devoted time, energy, blood, sweat and tears to restoring an older house
    • Beautifully preserved or restored residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, or religious buildings
    • Transformative adaptive reuse projects where an old building has been given another life with a new use
    • Historic and cultural landscapes including gardens, parks, and farms
    • Legacy and small businesses that have been an anchor to the community and are located in an historic property
    • Tradespeople practicing historic architectural craft or skill
    • Yourself! Self-nominations are encouraged and appreciated. You should be proud of what you have accomplished!

    Award Categories

    • Outstanding Preservation Project: Honors exemplary rehabilitation, restoration, or adaptive reuse of a historic property completed within the past five years. Eligible projects may be commercial, mixed-use, or residential.
    • Preservation Stewardship & Leadership: Recognizes an individual, group, agency, nonprofit, or business whose contributions have positively impacted historic preservation and/or on Bozeman's cultural heritage. This may include projects or initiatives designed to empower and educate the community such as advocacy campaigns, fundraising, research, or construction.
    • Preservation Innovation: Celebrates creative approaches to preservation challenges including sustainable design, integration of new technology, or context-sensitive infill construction. Projects must have been completed within the past five years and may be commercial, mixed use or residential.
    • Preservation Craft: Honors exceptional construction-related activities in the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, or reconstruction of historic elements. This may include restoring a historic structure, sign, or architectural component, as well as recognizing individuals skilled in traditional trades who demonstrate deep knowledge of historic preservation.
    • Landscape Heritage Award: Recognizes projects that enhance the historic form, features, and details of a landscape, streetscape, park, or open space, while promoting sustainability and water conservation in context with the area. Recipients may be individuals or organizations.
    • Cultural Heritage: Celebrates contributions to preserving and promoting the diverse cultural heritage of the Greater Gallatin area, especially communities and stories often overlooked in Bozeman’s historic narrative. This includes both tangible heritage (buildings, monuments, landscapes, artifacts, food, arts) and intangible heritage (storytelling, oral histories, languages, traditions, knowledge).

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Project/property must be located within Bozeman city limits
    • Project must be complete by the date the application is submitted
    • Have an original construction date prior to 1975
    • Person/Organization can be from greater Gallatin area but needs to have ties to Bozeman
